Wood selection is a matter of personal preference for the most
part. Sound differs slightly with different woods and can be altered
in the tuning process. Generally, the more dense the wood the
sharper the resulting sound. Only the finest wood goes into a
Faulkner Call. Wood is selected for its tonal qualities as well
as appearance. Considerable time and expense goes into selecting
the finest wood as shown in the highly figured Birds-Eye Maple
board shown at the left.
